Latif M. Rizk
(September 22, 1928 - July 6, 2011)
Egyptian born, Latif Rizk began his career in trade at the age of 22; importing chemicals and pharmaceuticals. He later became involved in exporting Egyptian snack foods to neighboring countries, which began his lifelong association with international food trade.
In 1975 Mr. Rizk immigrated to the U.S., and began exporting various food ingredients to Egypt and surrounding markets. While participating in USDA’s early international marketing programs in the late 1970's, he recognized an opportunity to introduce frozen beef and poultry products to Egypt. In Cairo’s vast open markets, he introduced imported meat and poultry – literally stall-by-stall. He founded Mirasco in 1983 to export agricultural products worldwide. Both his sons followed him into the family business.
As they continued to expand their business into new markets under Mr. Rizk’s leadership, the team established company branches in key markets and supply regions. In the early 1990’s Mirasco was among the first exporters of beef and poultry products to Russia, after the fall of the Soviet Union. Today, Mirasco is present in USA, Egypt, Russia, Uruguay and Peru.
